We Don't Need No Stinking Badges: Deputizing Loved Ones for Those Little Details
by Maria

There are a lot of traditional wedding duties that you know about, like holding the rings and helping with the bridal shower. (If you don’t know about those, or if you suspect your wedding party might not, check out our article at http://www.onewed.com/article/story/1488797 .) But there are a lot of little things to attend to that aren’t traditionally assigned to anyone.
So here’s a quick checklist of little jobs you may want to hand out to your more detail-oriented loved ones. If you want, go ahead and give them one of these handy made up but traditional-sounding titles. It’ll make them feel proud.
The Decisionary Host or Hostess
It’s a good idea to have a point person at the reception that the caterers, DJ, videographer, and others can go to with questions. You and your new husband, your parents, and even your attendants may all be occupied at times, so get someone you trust to make the on-the-fly calls and check in occasionally to make sure everything is running well.
The Sommelier of Eloquence
You’re having toasts, so assign someone to make sure that champagne is on hand (and poured) in time.
The Midnight Reception Angels
Your parents (both sets) will usually help with collecting and taking home the gifts, but they could definitely use a little help. It’s also not a bad idea to ask someone to take care of the cake topper, the anniversary layer, and the toasting goblets. You may want to have someone take charge of any disposable cameras you put out (and discreetly spread the word that they aren’t favors) and to bring a roll of clear tape to make sure the right cards stay attached to the right gifts.
The Godsend
That so-together someone who can help with a little of everything. He or she can help the florist make sure everyone has their proper corsages, boutonnières, and bouquets; check the centerpieces and help people find their places and place cards; make sure everyone who should sticks around for pictures; and help with handing out birdseed for the newleyweds’ exit.
