Your Bridal Emergency Kit

by Jen

You’ve done a lot of thinking about what should happen at your wedding. Now it’s time to think about what might happen at your wedding. I firmly believe that we live in a benevolent universe, but I’ve also noticed that Murphy’s Law has been practically despotic at my girlfriends’ weddings.

Never fear! You are about to turn yourself into Batbride: able to handle anything that comes up with her trusty utility belt. Well, OK, not so much a utility belt as an emergency kit. But it’s still a lifesaver – for you and the whole wedding party.

Some wedding vendors will sell prepackaged kits. If you decide on one, definitely rifle through it and customize it for your own needs well before the wedding. The more prepared you are, the more you’ll be able to relax and focus on the fun.

The Body Rebellious
• Prescription medications
• Extra contact lenses and saline
• Over-the-counter pain relievers
• Antacids or other stomach soothers
• Tampons and napkins
• Baby powder
• Band-aids

Grooming emergencies
• Toothbrush and toothpaste
• Mints
• Deodorant
• Shoe polish
• A hand mirror
• Brush, comb, hair product
• Bobby pins, hair clips, hair ties
• Make-up (definitely some for you, and maybe some that matches your bridesmaids’ skin tones as well.)
• An iron

Clothing emergencies
• Black socks for ushers or groomsmen
• Stain remover
• Extra pantyhose
• Clear nail polish (to stop runs in hose)
• Sewing kit (make sure to have thread that matches your gown and the bridesmaids’)
• Masking tape or hem tape
• Safety pins

Nothing life can throw at you will foil you! Nothing!
• Important phone numbers
• Directions to the reception
• A pair of comfortable shoes
• Snacks and drinks
• Camera batteries
• An extension cord
• Cords and adapters for other electronics
• Games or activities to keep small children occupied

…And if you catch yourself thinking about it, throw it in there.

Now that you’re all packed, hand your kit to your maid of honor, your mom, or your most responsible bridesmaid who needs something to do. Heck, one of them may even pack it for you. And practice smiling modestly when everyone tells you what a together bride you are.
