Pottery Wedding Guestbook

You can use any shape of unfired pottery object you want. Platters and bowls are used often because they have relatively smooth and flat surfaces for signing. However, any object that can be signed can be used. The shape you choose is entirely up to you and your fiancées’ tastes. Select something that will be meaningful and or useful to the two of you. Useful can be as decoration or something you could truly use. If you have a lot of guests you can use more than one item, perhaps a serving set?

Most cities have a pottery shop. That is where you need to go to pick up your item and the pens to sign it with. Explain to them what you are using it for and that people will be signing the object in its unfired state and then you will want to glaze it and fire it so the signatures are protected forever. You will need pre glaze pens in the color(s) that you like. This is where you will bring the signed piece back to have them glaze and fire it.

At your wedding setup a table with the pre glaze pens and the unfired pottery you chose and have a sign explaining to the guests how to sign or better have a person their to direct them in what to do. After the signing is finished take it back to the pottery shop and have them glaze and fire it. When they are finished you will have a very unique, memorable, and useful alternative wedding guestbook!
