Whether you are planning an indoor or outdoor wedding reception, there are certain factors to take into consideration while planning your reception, like:
· How many guests can be accommodated?
· How many tables are provided?
· What are the size and shape of the tables?
· Can the tables be moved or are they fixed?
· What types of chairs are available?
· Are there restrictions on decorations?
· Will tablecloths be provided?
Once you know the answers to the above questions, it is much easier to plan your seating arrangements and reception decorations.
Type of Tables
When planning your seating chart, the uses of long rectangular tables offer seating for many people, but are not ideal for mingling. They also do not offer a lot of options for arranging of the tables. Circular or square tables provide more options for arranging as well as allow guests to easily mingle with other guests. Arrange your seating chart so that the friends and family of the groom are mixed in with family and friends of the bride. This will keep your guests from forming little groups and ignoring other guests.
Arranging Tables
Some very unique designs can be created using circular or square tables. Tables can be arranged in groups, turned at different angles, or used individually. Visit your wedding reception location and take a look at the tables available and the size of the room. When arranging tables, keep in mind that you want guests to be easily seated. You don't want to create an obstacle course for your guests to maneuver through.
Table Decorations
After you have decided how the tables will be arranged and who will sit where, you can then focus on the table decorations. Some wedding reception locations will provide table linens and others will not. The tables can be decorated to match a wedding theme or wedding style using printed or colored tablecloths, napkin holders, wedding favors, flowers, and table centerpieces.
Centerpieces
There are many different options to choose from for wedding table centerpieces that can be from simple table decorations to very elaborate designs. Many centerpieces include the use of fresh flowers, while others incorporate balloons, candy, or an item matching a theme. One very important factor to consider when choosing a centerpiece for your tables is not to allow the centerpiece to overwhelm the table. Guests across from each other should be able to see each other and carry on a conversation without the interference of a centerpiece.
Chairs
The chairs can be decorated to match a wedding style or wedding theme. Some brides choose to drape fabric over the chairs and tie the fabric with a bow or ribbon. Others choose to use balloons, fresh flowers, silk flowers, or ribbons to decorate the chairs.
