Two of my favorite red carpet hairstyles from the 2011 Oscars were worn by Anne Hathaway and Reese Witherspoon. Hathaway donned a perfectly classic sleek chignon
, and Witherspoon went in a totally different direction sporting a retro-inspired ponytail.
Both of these hairstyles
are white aisle-worthy, so today we'll dish how to get the look!
Anne Hathaway- Sleek Chignon
What you'll need: Large hot rollers, bobby pins and a heavy-duty hairspray.
: First, add bounce and body to hair with large hot rollers. Once your tresses are set, wrap and tuck your hair in a half circle to create a simple low bun at the nape of the neck. Gently pull a few pieces out in front to frame the face and give hair a soft, sophisticated look just like Anne's!
Reese Witherspoon- Retro Ponytail
What you'll need: Spray gel with lifting/texturizing power (try Fekkai Coiff Bouffant Lifting & Texturizing Spray Gel
), a smooth finish serum, large round brush, 1.5 inch curling iron, comb for teasing, and sheer hold hairspray.
: Start with a lovely foundation by applying texturizing spray gel and smoothing serum to damp hair. Blow dry hair using a large round brush, and tease at the roots. This will create the fullness and volume you need for this 60's-inspired mod bridal updo
. Next, divide your hair into two sections, and use the 1.5 inch curling iron on the bottom section to add movement and volume. Mist the curls with a sheer hold hairspray and then secure the voluminous ponytail high on the head. Make sure there's ample volume at the roots, and finish the look with a high-shine hairspray.
