A. I have always wanted a beach wedding. I originally wanted to take a cruise and have the wedding in the Bahamas or Mexico, but Tim got orders to Iraq and has to leave in early June, so our time to save up money for our fabulous wedding in paradise was nixed. Tim’s sister called one day and said she and her husband and kids were going to St. Petersburg for vacation in March and asked if we wanted to join them. We decided then that FL would be perfect for our wedding.
Q. How many guests were in attendance, and why did you keep it small?
A.We only had six guests at the wedding. (Though there were some people on the beach that we didn’t know taking pictures of us.☺)
We wanted to get married before the deployment, so we didn’t have a lot of time to save any money or make any big plans. Basically we just bought a dress, made hotel reservations, hired a photographer, and winged it from there.
Q. How much money did you spend on the wedding ceremony and photography?
A.We spent less than $1,000 on the wedding, including the pictures. Really our whole trip was pretty inexpensive.
Q. How much did the state of the economy impact your wedding plans?
A. Luckily, we both have jobs that have not been directly impacted by the economy. The time frame was our #1 reason to keep it small.
Q. Did you get married and honeymoon in the same place?
A. Yes. I wasn’t able to take more than a week off work and we didn’t have a ton of money to spend on anything extravagant so we figured we would make the most out of our trip. It was wonderful!!
Q. Are you happy with your decision to have a small wedding on the beach?
A. Absolutely! I wouldn’t have done it any other way! It was beautiful and very low-stress! How many brides can say that about their wedding?! My biggest worry was if my hair would turn out O.K. because I was doing it myself. Everything was perfect!
