Wedding Decor Ideas- How To Create a Winter Wonderland Wedding!

Special to OneWed by Billy of Luxe Life EventsWhen the weather outside is frightful and the fire is so delightful…” Well as a California bride the weather may not ever get too frightful, but that doesn’t mean that a winter wonderland wedding in California can’t be done!

As I begin designing any wedding or event space, I always start with the lighting. Lighting is the easiest way to evoke the overall feel you’re going for. For the daring bride who wants blizzard-inspired décor, start with blue up lights around the perimeter of the room. From there, use large pin spots set up high to “flood the air” with color and make the room glow.

Once your lighting is done, a white and silver wedding color palette is perfect for the winter look. For the wedding reception tables, I suggest diamond pin tuck Taffeta or white Shantung linens to make your tables pop. By adding silver chivaris around each table and silver charger plates at each place setting you can stretch that palette from table to table.

Adding a bit of bling to your décor will help convey the icy theme, too! The use of crystals is something you want to be very cautious of. Although it can be stunning if done correctly, it only takes a few extra to make it all too much. With a winter wonderland wedding, crystals are a must, but don’t over do it. Hang 4 to 5 strands of crystals underneath each floral centerpiece. You’ll wow your wedding guests, and the crystals will pick up the blue light and really shine. To finish the look, sprinkle loose crystals and white rose petals around the base of each centerpiece.

Other great winter wonderland decor ideas- white branches extending from your centerpieces or white trees lining the ceremony aisle. For Melissa Rivers’ wedding, design genius Preston Bailey used HUGE white trees to line her ceremony aisle and really made her theme pop. Obviously, not everyone has Joan Rivers as a mother to foot the bill for a PB wedding, but that’s not to say a little creativity and a can of white spray paint cant go a long way in creating that same feeling when keeping dollar signs in mind!

So, in summary, to create a winter wonderland wedding... 1. Lighting: Go blue and let it reflect off all that white to give the room an amazing glow. And don’t skimp on the candles! Candlelight makes a huge difference for your tablescapes while also adding warmth and romance. 2. Color Palette: WHITE! With silver and crystal accents. 3. Texture: Make sure the room doesn’t feel cold by adding luxurious fabrics to add warmth and comfort.
