Here at Luxe Life, we are so ready for this year's top wedding trend- return to elegant sophistication! The “it” factor behind “Sophisticated Elegance” is what draws me to the theme. The idea that your wedding album could forever be in style and the pictures still inspiring ten years from now is the very notion that makes this year’s hottest theme so attractive. I have planned many weddings that are bright, flashy and glitzy and are overall fabulous, but there is nothing more chic than timeless sophisticated design.

When a bride comes to me and describes herself as “sophisticated,” and “elegant,” (which many do), my imagination immediately takes me to a place of soft monotone color palettes, whimsical florals, timeless ensembles and rich textures.

Light colors are key! Whether it is pink, purple or blue, find shades of these colors that come in a lighter shade. Try creams, blushes, nude, lilac or spa blue. Muted metallics also work well. Keep in mind texture as well. With this wedding theme consider linens that are made of lace or have lace details. Also, pleating, rosettes or ruffles can lend to a marvelous “polished” look. I like to study wedding dress designers like Monique, Vera and Armani Privé to examine the luxe textures and patterns they use. Examining these masters and incorporating similar aesthetics into your wedding reception décor will make a huge difference.

Romance plays a role in this theme as well, and nothing is more romantic than candlelight. Planning on using 5 candles per table? Double it and go with 10! If your wedding venue allows for taper candles definitely consider them as they really help in creating a sophisticated tablescape. Lighting up the reception room with the soft glow reminiscent of an old chateau or outdoor evening in wine country will help bring this theme to life.

Fabulous floral design is the final piece to achieving a sophisticated, elegant look. Choose wedding flowers that have lush petals and large buds. Load your tabletops with petals and consider tall centerpieces to add drama to your reception space. Will you bring sophisticated elegance to your upcoming nuptials? If so, how will you achieve the look?
