Best Wedding Dress for Your Shape: Petite and Curvy

Posted by Azure on June 27th, 2011
When you're petite with lots of curves, finding a gorgeous and flattering wedding dress can be a tall order. But armed with the tips below, you'll find the dress of your dreams and knock your groom's socks off!

The key is to choose a gown that creates length without interrupting the body line. A gown that creates one long line will make you appear taller and leaner. Trumpet and mermaid silhouettes with raised waistlines will add height long before you slip on your 4" wedding heels! Similarly, softly draped Grecian-inspired styles elongate petite brides' frames with their unbroken lines.

A shift dress (or sheath silhouette) is another fantastic choice for short, curvy brides. This gown style offers ample coverage with seaming details that define and flatter. If you're set on a voluminous ball gown, choose a basque-waist style as the elongated bodice gives the illusion of extra height. Another trick to look your best is to draw eyes up. You can do this with a one-shoulder gown featuring a draped flutter sleeve or beaded strap.

When it comes to dress details, keep it simple! Loads of ruffles or clouds of tulle will overwhelm your demure frame. And if you plan on accessorizing with a bridal belt, choose a wider style. While super skinny belts are big right now, a wider belt will help balance fullness and highlight your waist.
