Wedding Etiquette Questions Answered by an Expert!

There's no such thing as proper wedding etiquette; what's 'proper' etiquette to some brides may not be proper to others. But of course, there are etiquette guidelines that can help you along the way.

And it never hurts to read up on wedding etiquette tips and advice from a true expert. Elizabeth Post was one of the best-known etiquette experts around, and her daughter, Emily Post, dishes etiquette advice just for brides-to-be. Head over to Post's online portal, Etipedia, and get the answers to all of your burning wedding etiquette questions. Below are a few of my favorite questions and answers from Emily Post's wedding etiquette site: The Engagement Ring Question: I love my fiancé, but I don't love the engagement ring. Should I tell him? Expert Answer: Often times, picking out the engagement ring is a joint decision; today, only 30% of men pick out the ring themselves. So luckily, the 'I don't like my engagement ring' issue comes up much less frequently these days.

However, if you're truly unhappy with your engagement ring, be honest with your fiance about this. Start the conversation by expressing your appreciation for his efforts, and let him know how much the ring means to you (since you'll be wearing it for the rest of your life). Recognize that because he chose to surprise you when popping the question, he may not have been privy to your ring preferences or style. The MIL Question: I invited my fiance's mom to help with the wedding planning, but now she's taking over. Help! Expert Answer: Sit down with your fiancé and his mother and discuss what wedding checklist items have already been taken care of. Once you determine the remaining wedding planning to do's, let your fiance's mom know what tasks you'll be handling and why. Let your soon-to-be MIL know how much you appreciate her efforts and the work she's put in, and delegate to her a few minor tasks that you're fine passing off.

As always, honesty is the best policy! And as long as you keep your cool and approach situations with tact and gratitude, you'll get the ring and wedding of your dreams!
