We've been going over 2012 bridal trends the past few Fridays and here's another worth looking into.
Have you heard some designers are using wool for wedding dresses? Not too long ago I fashioned the Harlowesque-style above out of wool crepe. Sleeveless with silk flowers on the shoulder and waist it definitely had all the earmarks of a spring bridal gown. The big question I asked brides was, "Would you wear a woolen dress on your wedding day? In spring?"
I got back the unequivocal, 'Yes, as long as it was chic and comfortable.' Funny thing is, when we think wool, winter wardrobes usually come to mind. Lightweight wool crepes and jerseys are actually great fabrics through spring and summer as long as the silhouettes lend themselves well to drapey fabrics and bare arms and back. And don’t worry, wool breathes well as long as it’s lined in a lightweight fabric like China silk.
Just look at these wedding dresses by indie-designers. Would you have guessed wool or any portion thereof?
