Over the weekend I went to see the newest romance movie by Nicholas Sparks, “The Vow”. Since the last time I watched a Sparks’ movie (The Notebook), I ended up crying for hours, I was reluctant to see another. But I have to admit I loved this tearjerker!
The Vow is based on a true story, chronicling the journey of a couple who met, fell in love, and were torn apart after a car accident erases the wife’s memory of their life together. It will make you giggle, then cry, then blush and cry some more, and Channing Tatum fans be warned—extra tissues are a must, because he is totally drool-worthy in this flick.
The best part though, for those of us with weddings on the brain, was seeing all the gorgeous and thrifty details of the couple’s inventive and sneaky ceremony!
Let’s start with the flash mob-esque wedding ceremony held (secretly) at an exhibit in the Chicago Art Institute. Paige (Rachel McAdams) and Leo (Channing Tatum) gather casually in an exhibit room, with an ordained friend acting as officiant, and repeat the most romantic vows possible in front of a small group of friends. Just as they say “I Do” a guard spots them and the whole group sprints out of the museum! In real life this would probably be illegal, but I still love the idea of a sneaky wedding with only the closest of friends and family. Besides Carrie and Big nearly getting married at the New York Public Library I am hard pressed to think of a more unique location than an art museum.
Looks like this real life couple was also inspired by fine art!
We all know Rachel McAdams is a real life style maven, but her character in The Vow did the vintage bride look right! She paired her pink mini dress with a quirky bridal veil, looking adorable next to her groom wearing a retro three-piece suit. Both looks could be thrift store finds (if you have the time to shop around), but check out the vintage-inspired pieces below, and get plenty of veil inspiration here!
For the reception—A frilly pink and white lace mini fits the look!
Dapper in a three-piece suit—Grooms will have an easier time mimicking Leo’s look, as any three-piece suit should do the trick. Try a lighter color for spring and summer weddings.
Chic and simple wedding bands—I loved the sweet simplicity of Paige’s gold leaf wedding band, and Leo’s equally beautiful classic gold ring.
Have you seen The Vow? Will it inspire any aspect of your wedding or bridal style?
