Be the Best Dressed Guest in these Delightful Dresses

Posted by Bride Chic on June 20th, 2014

You just got the invite, now what? Count the times you've seen guests go into a panic when they have no idea what to wear. No worries!   Whether you're attending your bestie's seaside nuptials or a wedding at The Ritz during the holidays you can easily check out all your options for showing up and looking beautiful. Unless the invite specifies casual, semi-formal or formal you’ll have to either ask or figure it out on your own. Venue and the bride’s gown are big rule of thumb factors. If you know the bride is going to be in an Amsale ball gown, walking down the aisle of Saint Patrick’s Cathedral with a reception at the Plaza, you’re definitely going formal. Where I live (San Francisco Bay Area) sometimes guests show up dressed 'California Casual' no matter what the season or venue.  On the other hand, when I lived in New York everyone went a little more cosmopolitan and dressed according to season. While we're all connected to a particular region with a friend and family network, most differ so here are a few guidelines:

SPRING/SUMMER BEACH OR DESTINATION WEDDING
If you go comfortable, cotton and casual you're not going to miss. Linen and hemp are favorites too for beach scene weddings.

SPRING GARDEN WEDDING
Light and airy  look is ideal if you're a guest at a garden or tea-time wedding with a vintage feel. Great look for bridesmaids too.

THE SPRING AFTERNOON WEDDING
This short dress with color blocking in pink and white says Spring all over. Indulge yourself . . .

SUMMER FORMAL OR EVENING WEDDING
These dark tones of Summer move easily into evening dressing

SUMMER AFTERNOON WEDDING
The perfect green for a mid-summer afternoon can go surprisingly formal or casual

SUMMER RESORT WEDDING
There are so many of these weddings come summertime along the coasts and lakesides. Cotton and warm weather are buddies once you're in this great dress.

AUTUMN AFTERNOON WEDDING
Even though these are officially bridesmaid dresses, I see them in almost any setting, formal or semi-formal.  So versatile and perfect in a church ceremony, hotel or even garden wedding.

WINTER FORMAL AND EVENING WEDDING
Winter jewel tones in satin add drama and warmth in the Winter.  Accessorized with wraps and gloves this look can be really elegant.
