John and I had planned on spending the eve of my 30th birthday on South Beach, Miami. Not only was it my birthday, but my favorite sports team, the Florida Gators, were about to win the BCS National Championship at the Orange Bowl just down the road from where we were staying. We hung out on the strip all day and just before sunset we stopped on the beach to enjoy the weather and each others company. From there we returned to the hotel room to change for dinner and as I was blabbering on about god knows what he plopped down on the bed and pulled out the ring. After blurting out a combination of "Huh?" and "Are you kidding?" I realized what was happening and of course said YES.

We spent the next two days with my friends in Palm Beach before returning home to yell at my parents who had known about all of this since John asked them for my hand Christmas Eve.
