Review: As a friend, I'm telling you not to book him.

I will give him that he took decent pictures - seen better, but there were several I came away with that I was pleased about.
He didn't do enough. I wished we'd had more photo opportunities.
I got all the prints, edited, on CDs and I own the copyright. That IS one of the reasons I booked him; I liked the way he did his packages. I had engagements, bridals, and the wedding day and a certain amount of print credit.
I don't want to sound like one of those whining, selfish brides, but I would not recommend this photographer at all. I was referred to this photographer by my good friend who warned me that although he was pretty difficult to work with, the quality of pictures they got for the price they paid was pretty good. She also advised me to only work with his wife, Carol, because she was really friendly and great. So I booked Ryan. I tried to contact him at times when I thought it would be his wife answering; I tried emailing only because my friend had said she was the one who answered the emails, but Ryan was always the one I talked to. The only time I ever exchanged a single word with her was when I booked them, which is unfortunate. I have met her (at my friend's wedding) and she was very nice. Ryan, however, was a disaster to work with. Getting a hold of him was a bit of a nightmare, but putting that aside, I felt the entire time we were working with him that I just wasn't important enough. The engagement session had to be postponed after we had already driven from Logan to Provo and were waiting for him to arrive. Admittedly, this was beyond his control and he did reimburse us for our gas money. But when I did my bridals, I looked forward to having Carol come because my friend had such a good experience with her there and was made to feel so special and pretty. She was not available to come during my bridals, and Ryan just acted impatient, disgruntled, and tense the entire time. I felt like he disapproved of any ideas I had and I was, again, made to feel unspecial. We got some decent pictures, however, so again I tried to overlook all these facts. On the wedding day, he was a bit more affable, and the pictures were nice - really they were - but I've also seen better. Of course, he wasn't that expensive so I suppose that's what I get. But getting everything ordered afterwards? A nightmare. He wouldn't tell me how much each enlargement was, and I couldn't find this information on his website, so finally I just ordered the pictures I wanted and hoped my print credit covered it. I ordered, and ended up having extra credit. It took me several months to use the rest, but when I finally did, he was completely unhelpful during the entire process. His emails were short, undetailed, and usually only answered one question out of a few I had asked in my email. And when he finally did send my order to the press, there was a miscommunication (although I believe I made myself very clear) about the quantity of one certain print, which made me go over and end up owing him money. Without checking with me first (even though I specifically told him I had ordered the perfect amount to use my credit and no more), he just sent the order to the press and told me I needed to send him a check for what I owed him before he would give me my pictures. When I pointed out that I hadn't ordered what he thought, he just said it was my mistake and that I still owed him. I'm honestly so frustrated with him. His skill as a photographer is a given, but his customer service is absolutely terrible. I'm not a pushy or overbearing person at all, and I feel that because I am not like that, I was just walked over and not taken care of. It is not usually in my nature to write poor reviews, but I truly want to let people know to steer clear of this photographer.
