  • It is impossible to decide on my favorite photo because Shem took SO many amazing shots. The candid shots of Zach and I (and of our guests) are fun, creative, beautifully angled and creative. They bring you right back to the wedding and totally capture the feeling of the evening.
  • The amazing thing about Shem is that he is completely unobtrusive and sometimes you don't even know he is there, and yet, he seemed to be everywhere, photographing everything. He took photos of things I never even saw! His candid shots are creative and artful; shots we'll cherish forever. We also had Shem set up a "photo booth" for guests to be photographed in. Shem's wife, Rebecca, did an absolutely spectacular job taking photos of us and our guests in front of a soft gray screen. Rebecca made guests feel totally comfortable posing and getting crazy in front of the camera, and the result was photos that make us laugh, smile and remember everyone who shared in our amazing wedding day!
  • Our favorite part of working with Shem was that there was no set package. Shem worked with us to design a package that we liked, so we didn't end up paying for things we didn't need. But one of the things we liked best about working with Shem was that after the event he gave us a DVD with all the images, whereas with some photographers they make you buy the photos after you pay for them to be taken!
  • It's hard to feel uncomfortable with Shem and Rebecca. They are genuinely great people who are great to be around with and without a camera. Everyone in my family felt totally at ease...it's not what they did, it's just who they are!

  • What was your favorite wedding photo? Shem took so many great wedding photos it is hard to pick just one. He was able to focus on all the great details of the wedding from the arrangements on the tables to the expressions on not only our faces but our guests as well. Shem took the initiative to really photograph the mood of the wedding. During our ceremony many of the photos are taken from behind our officiant allowing us to see the interactions between Nick and myself (laughter, tears, love) simultaneously with our guests (support, happiness, excitement.) All in all each photo Shem took was with intent and focus. He was able to really translate our day just as we had remembered it.
  • How did the wedding photographer avoid disrupting the day? Great with candids? Action shots? Portraits? Shem was always a part of our wedding, coming as both our photographer and as a guest. He is a great friend of ours who made each person at the wedding completely comfortable and totally unaware of the camera in his hand. He used his both his talent and his fun spirited, calm, approachable personality to put everyone at ease allowing the true self to come through in the photograph. From the stoic portrait of my father and grandmother to the whimsical lighthearted dancing of my 3 year old flower girl, Shem got it all.
  • What was included in your wedding photo package? Albums? DVDs? Engagement pics? Two photographers? Shem was completely flexible in working with what we needed for our wedding. Because my husband is a photographer as well, Shem worked with him in getting us all the great selects to make a complete wedding portfolio. He was one of two photographers at our wedding who worked together to make one cohesive package. I would be more than happy to share our wedding day for any brides looking for inspiration at: www.nicklavecchia.com/weddingdays
  • How did the photographer make you and family comfortable? I feel as though the above answers really show how Shem made us comfortable and would rather use this space to praise Shem's abilities. Shem went above and beyond to make our day great. A wedding photographer often has the most intimate outlook on the day as a whole. He or she is there for each important moment and often captures a instance that often was only felt but never seen. Shem caught these instances each time they occurred and each time I look back at them I remember the day as if it just happened. Our wedding was unique in the sense that it was one of two rainy days in the month of September. It was a tented affair a clover field at my parents home. Shem not only ran around in the rain and helped us adapt the entire ceremony, we were supposed to be married under a driftwood arch on the ocean, but saw a great opportunity to make lemonaide from lemons. He photographed everyone in their rain boots, took portraits outside under umbrellas, focused in on the raindrops on the votive lanterns and really made a romantic, dramatic, beautiful expose of a rainy day. Not only did he get all the great shots on the wedding day itself but came with us on the day after to get the token shots (in the sunshine) of us riding our bicycle built for two, and portraits under our custom built arch. Shem made us feel special and we couldn't have asked for a better person or friend to share such a great day with us.

Review: Perfectly & Beautifully Caputured Our Day

  • What was your favorite wedding photo? There's a photo that Sham captured of my new husband and I, alone in a vestibule on the second floor of the church where we got married. It was just after the ceremony when the two of us were lost in our own moment. I don't know when Shem came up or when he took the picture, but it's our favorite. (We included a small print of the photo in every one of our thank you cards.)
  • How did the wedding photographer avoid disrupting the day? Great with candids? Action shots? Portraits? Shem was the opposite of disruptive. He quietly captured every special moment of the day. He shoots in the journalistic style, which was exactly what we were looking for: Natural candids that captured the event in its most natural form, unposed. His candids are our favoites, but we're so happy to also have the portraits he took of the two of us before, during and after the ceremony, as well of the whole family.
  • What was included in your wedding photo package? Albums? DVDs? Engagement pics? Two photographers? We got exactly what we wanted: DVDs with high-res images of our wedding photos. Shem also set up an online album for friends and family to be able to view all of the photos and purchase any prints they wanted. It took the pressure off of us to have to pick our favorites to send to family.
  • How did the photographer make you and family comfortable? Shem came to our house a few months before the wedding to get to know both of us and to get an idea of what we were looking for from him on our big day. By the time he left, we felt like he was an old friend. The day of the wedding, he somehow managed to be everywhere at once, getting every shot, without ever being in the way. The family portraits can be a pain, but with Shem they were easy and fun. He was so patient, waiting while we wrangled all of the different family members we wanted to photograph. By the end of the day, Shem felt like another member of the family.

  • What was your favorite wedding photo? There are too many to list - but there is one shot, #372, that makes me teary and nostalgic every time I see it. Shem captured a really great moment that summed up all that we felt on that day...
  • How did the wedding photographer avoid disrupting the day? Great with candids? Action shots? Portraits? Shem is a dear friend and an amazing photographer. He actively participated in our wedding day and it meant the world to us to have him take pictures for us. He has a very good sense of people and their energy, which translates into photographs that look natural, and beautiful. He did a wonderful job of photographing our friends and family, as well as the traditional shots of us. We were so pleased with his work.
  • What was included in your wedding photo package? Albums? DVDs? Engagement pics? Two photographers? Shem is willing to do so much to make sure you get what you want out of your photographs. For us, we just wanted a CD with all of the shots so we could do with them what we wished. He was very accommodating to family members who wanted prints or CD's from the wedding.
  • How did the photographer make you and family comfortable? All in all, Shem is gracious, professional, funny, creative, and extremely talented. We are so lucky to call him a friend and feel very grateful for the work he did before, during and after our wedding. If you are looking for someone to capture your wedding day in a way that feels most true to you and your partner, Shem will not disappoint.

Review: Wonderful photographer ~ Brilliant & unique images

  • What was your favorite wedding photo? This is a difficult question. Shem got some beautiful still shots of my typewriter and other handmade items, some fantastic portraits of guests, some beautiful shots of us outside in the snow, and his wife, Rebecca, caught some amazing shots of people in our photo booth area. The photos together captured the feelings of the evening and made for a great album.
  • How did the wedding photographer avoid disrupting the day? Great with candids? Action shots? Portraits? Not only did they avoid disrupting the day, they were actively involved in making it better. They got a great variety of shots: warm glowing shots of our ceremony and dinner, crisp portraits during cocktail hour, silly photobooth shots and romantic snowy outdoor shots. Also, we got married in a light snow storm. They willingly traipsed around in a foot of snow with us, and when my 5 year old step son followed us outside in a bit of a funk, we looked up moments later to see him on Rebecca's shoulders, grinning widely as she let him hold the flash.
  • What was included in your wedding photo package? Albums? DVDs? Engagement pics? Two photographers? 5 hours, two photographers, a photobooth area, dvds, 10 prints of our choosing, access to online prints for purchase to all guests. Also, their turn around time was just over a week. I've heard of friends waiting months to get photos and a year to get albums.
  • How did the photographer make you and family comfortable? I can't imagine having an easier time working with someone - they took the suggestions we gave and put their own spin on them. The variety of shots they got was outstanding. Many of our friends and family commented on how great they were, and have been amazed at how beautiful the photos were that were captured. It was also really important to me not to have a standard wedding photographer that would churn out cookie cutter "wedding photos". Shem truly captured the feeling of the evening and responded to us as a couple and our guests.
