She spent a lot of time making sure the mothers were tended too and did a good job at it. It was the first time both families were spending extended time together. Helena arranged for a "mom's beauty outing" with massage, facial & lunch to keep them out of my hair. As much as I love the moms...I wanted to get ready without "suggestions" from any well-meaning parent!
I had a destination wedding (on Santorini Island, Greece), thus there wasn't much that moms, bridal party, etc... could get their hands on...so I thought. Our planner suggested that I delegate some tasks to keep everyone feeling involved. For example, my mom was responsible for wedding favors. She was given the color scheme and let her do the rest. My husband's mother was responsible for working with the planner on putting together welcome baskets (one put in each hotel room). Maid of Honor & bridesmaids were responsible for working with the planner for a girls outing 2 days before the wedding (we took a cooking class and learned about local dishes!). Best man and groomsmen organized the boys outing with our planner (boys went on an island scavenger hunt- must mention here that the planner wrote the clues in simple Greek and they needed a dictionary and paper with local phrases in order to communicate to get the next clues from local shops/people.)
Helena made sure everyone was included and felt to be an integral part of the wedding without the stress and without compromising the fact that we wanted to plan our wedding day the way we wanted to. (Basically, one of the fundamental points of having a destination wedding.) She'd be a great diplomat!
Smiled and provided me with an unlimited supply of chewing gum.
Helena was my planner and now she's my friend. What could be better than having the most dreamy wedding and gaining a lifelong friend at the same time?
