Vintage Weddings: Downton Abbey Meets Jay Gatsby

Posted by Bride Chic on June 28th, 2013

Most brides I'm consulting these days are in awe of the Downton Abbey/Gatsby-inspired gowns and accessories spreading all over the the wedding blogs like fire.

The pre-1920s right up to the era of Art Deco was a pivotal time in fashion. Women were freed of the corset and hobble skirt and wore looser undergarments. Silhouettes tended to be long and lean with dropped waists. Do you need to adopt the whole costume theme to go about getting the look? You can of course but you can also incorporate just a couple details like your hairstyle and the cut of the gown--maybe some jewelry.

Hopefully this post will be an inspiration for all you brides-to-be out there looking for the how and what of topping it all off! Many thanks to Samantha Smith, the shooter on this editorial whose eye is incredible for finding just the right detail to bring into a picture. And of course she always showcases whatever I design in the best light there is...
