- First dance song? "Rest of my Life" by Blessid Union of Souls. It's not a common song, but one that means a lot to us. We were glad Jimmy was able to track it down for us.
- How did your wedding musicians keep the party going? We had an odd mix of guests. The groom's family is very conservative, and they don't dance. Anything the least bit suggestive in lyrics would be offensive. My family wants to get drunk and party hardy. We spoke with Jimmy about this ahead of time, and we found a great balance by playing primarily Oldies. The music themes were appropriate for everyone, but the beat was lively enough for dancing. It was a great solution. I counted on Jimmy to approve or decline any songs that were requested during the night, based on their appropriateness for our more conservative guests. He handled requests for "Baby Got Back" from my college friends with grace. It was great knowing that was taken care of, leaving my groom and me to focus on enjoying our time with friends and family.
- DJ or Band interaction with the wedding guests? Numbers exchanged? We made it clear when we met with Jimmy that while we don't need our DJ to be silent, we're not fans of singling out people ("Come on, I see that bachelor sitting at table 8! Get up here for the garter toss!"). We want to have a good time, but props and group dances just aren't our style. My husband I and really appreciated how flexible Jimmy and his assistant were, and how they honored not only our values, but also the variety of needs of our guests.
- Favorite wedding reception song & dance? We did an anniversary dance. What was really fun about it was that my groom and I had eloped several months earlier, and so had really been married for about six months by the time we had our big church wedding. Our DJ started out with, "Everyone married less than 24 hours, leave the floor," and we got to stay. A couple of cousins left the floor as Jimmy go to "less than 6 months." Then he said, "Anyone married less than 6 months, 12 days, and 4 hours, leave the floor." Our guests enjoyed the joke, too. The other thing that was nice was that many of our guests who weren't interested in dancing were willing to participate in this one dance for us.
