Television's newest wedding planning reality show, TNT's Wedding Day, kicked off last night by featuring the nuptials of a Michigan bride and groom who nearly didn't make it to the altar.

Holli and Steve Holdwick were engaged to be married in 2007, but a serious car accident just four days before their big day put the bride-to-be in the hospital with critical injuries.

Several months later, the couple's family heard about the network's search for brides and grooms who deserved to receive the special day of their dreams and submitted Holli and Steve's story.

The show's wedding planning team kicked into high gear, creating a lavish and joyful celebration, bringing members of the community together to help renovate the couple's local church. They also provide a number of lavish touches, including Manolo Blahnik wedding shoes for the bride.

Next week, another Michigan couple - Jaenelle and Nykolas Jones - will receive a similar treatment as the show tells the story of how they had to put their marriage plans on hold when their baby daughter needed kidney surgery.

In an interview with the Futon Critic, Wedding Day producer Mark Burnett said the program is "raise-me-up television, not tear-me-down television."

"All we're doing is enhancing the [wedding day] experience for deserving people," he added.
