Eco-friendly weddings are continuing to capture the imagination of couples who want to minimize their impact on the environment - and a new online course is aimed at getting planners up-to-speed on all the latest green wedding options.

The Green Wedding Planning Certification, offered by the Wedding Planning Institute, is a four-week online course for professional planners taught by Kate Harrison, author of The Green Bride Guide: How to Create an Earth-Friendly Wedding on Any Budget.

"With 45 percent of couples looking for green options this year, it has never been more important for wedding professionals to understand the environmental impacts of weddings," commented Harrison.

Even though environmentally friendly weddings are gaining ground, there still doesn't seem to have been a high-profile celebrity ceremony that proudly trumpets its green credentials.

Still, that could change soon. In September, Harrison Ford told Bang Showbiz that he and partner Calista Flockhart are committed to the principles of sustainability with their nuptials.

"My wedding was always going to be green," he told the news provider, when asked whether he was considering any eco-friendly touches.
