The expense of a wedding can put a damper on the joy of the occasion, but some lucky brides can now eliminate wedding dress from their wedding checklist.
NBC Connecticut reports that last week, in honor of Veterans Day, the Brides Across America Program teamed up with bridal boutiques around the country to offer free wedding dresses to the brides-to-be of those serving in the military.
Most participating wedding salons set aside a certain amount of wedding gowns for the day, and the event was first-come, first-served.
In Hartford, Connecticut, Amelia O'Brien was a special case. She's doing her wedding planning while she waits for her finance to return from oversees, but O'Brien herself served in the Air Force and met her husband-to-be in Iraq, according to the news source.
"Just to know that there are people out there that actually care about our veterans, care about us, that they're willing to donated their time, their effort, their dresses, that's amazing," O'Brien told the NBC affiliate. "It's been awesome."
Over 30 designers and boutiques teamed up to provide dresses for the event, including big names like Vera Wang, Carolina Herrera and Alfred Sung.
