Forward to a friend Love it!

Despite the economy, many couples have opted to make a little extra room in their budgets for sustainable products. Using locally-grown flowers or serving sustainable meals are both ways to cut corners from the carbon-footprint of your big day. Now green-minded couples can add sustainable wedding rings their wedding checklist.

Sustainable wedding rings are an option for green brides

A new website launched by Reflective Images, a jewelry manufacturer that focuses on sustainably manufactured or repurposed pieces, is providing brides and grooms with earth-friendly options for wedding rings and engagement rings.

The extent of the company's efforts is impressive – the entire studio, which is in Santa Fe, New Mexico - is run on green energy. The company also purchases carbon off-sets to further reduce the impact of their carbon emissions.

The unique rings offer a contemporary aesthetic, like hammered gold or platinum, as well as responsibly sourced diamonds. They come in a variety of styles and price ranges, from $200 sterling silver wedding bands to diamond and platinum engagement rings.

Of course, brides who prefer antique-style jewelry could find other ways to make their rings more earth-friendly. Shopping around for vintage rings on their own, or using a ring that has been in the family for years are both be ways for savvy brides to save money and resources.

  • "Green" wedding acessories is a great idea. Maybe in the near future, everything at a wedding will be environmentally friendly, from the wedding dress made from recyclable materials, to the organically grown wedding flowers/a> .

  • Nice to see that more companies are going into the "Green" direction. Hopefully we'll see more of that in the near future. As for the wedding bands - I think there's a lot of women that will be interested in this since the prices are very competitive.

I also give tips on choosing choosing wedding bands at:

  • You can go one better by making each other's rings with your own hands out of recycled precious metal at a Wedding Ring Workshop, under the guidance of an expert jeweler. You can choose from White Gold, Platinum, Yellow Gold or Paladium. Conflict-free diamonds are also obtainable there for either engagament or wedding rings.

  • If you are looking for a green metal that is affordable, you may want to research Argentium Sterling Silver as well. It is a step up from sterling silver, and does not tarnish.
