4 Keys to Harmonious Wedding Planning

We know. The thought of setting out and planning your wedding can seem overwhelming and like a flurry of blooms, fondant and frosting, contracts and BEOs, and checklists. Not to mention, the excitement from being recently engaged still has that luster and magic. The thought of entering into the unknown territory of planning with your new fiancé might seem daunting.

But treat the planning process as an adventure where you and your fiancé get to bring in bits and pieces of you as individuals into you as a couple. Trust us, doing so will not only create a planning environment that’s harmonious, but it will welcome you into newlywedded bliss on a high note – after all, shouldn’t your wedding be a reflection of you as a couple? Follow our 4 simple tips to create your own harmonious planning process and one amazing wedding that introduces you to the world as newlyweds in an unforgettable way:

1. Set parameters before you begin and really map out what’s most important to each of you individually. Prioritize where you will divide your funds based on items like photography, music, food and the like, and make sure you’re on the same page with the style of wedding you both want.

2. Celebrate each event you attend together, like cake tastings and venue tours, and document the fun you have with snapshots and candid blurbs so you remember the joy of the planning process and all those special moments. Ham it up and relax. Make date nights out of checking out a band for your reception, a tasting with your caterer, or working together on a fun DIY project (try these adorable ombre flags or cute escort cards).

3. Let it go when you know something means the world to your significant other. While it may seem like letting him or her insist on playing a funky reggae tune for your first entrance doesn’t jive with your vision of a black tie wedding, just let it go. Chances are your guests will get a kick out of this unexpected curve ball and will sing along! Coloring outside of the lines can produce the best memories.

4. Be surprised by your sweetie and let them pick an element you might not be too interested in, like a late-night menu or entertainment for the cocktail hour. The result might be a cool steel drummer, a Philly cheesesteak food truck, or some other element that you’ll get a kick out of.

Planning your wedding should be half of the fun, especially when you plan together. Doing so will strengthen your relationship and prepare you for making tough real-life decisions as newlyweds.

Happy planning!
