6 Creative Wedding Guest Book Alternatives

Special to OneWed by Kara Horner of

Tired of the traditional guest book concept where guests dutifully sign their names on the dotted line? While it’s nice to have a record of those who attended your wedding, a simple book of names can seem a bit, well…boring. But today, there are plenty of unique guest book alternatives to fit any couple’s personality. See below for inspiration!

Polaroid book. Update the traditional photo album with a fun, retro feel by placing a Polaroid camera on a table along with colored pens and have your guests take shots of themselves or each other and sign or write fun notes on the bottom of the photos. You can even string up clothes lines for guests to pin their photo creations on to jazz up the reception. Later on, you can place your favorites in a photo album-type guest book or create a framed photo collage.

Original artwork. Check out the offerings of a favorite local artist or Etsy seller to come up with a truly unique guest book masterpiece, such as this fingerprint guest book alternative idea, where guests stamp their fingerprints to help create an original piece of art.

Envelope/notebook. Create a guest book by affixing colored envelopes to the pages of an empty photo album, scrapbook, or on a large framed background and have guests write special notes to the couple that can be placed in a jar or vase at the reception. Later on, the notes can find a home in the envelopes in the book or frame for display.

Wine corks. If you and your fiancé are wine lovers, have guests sign wine corks and house them in a great vase or vessel that you can later use as décor to display in your home, perhaps near your bar area.

Engagement photo book. Have your wedding photographer design and create an album with several of your engagement shots alongside plenty of white space for guests to write special notes to you. This will make a wonderful personal keepsake for years to come.

Signature plate or photo. Although a little more common nowadays, these are still great options. Have guests sign either a ceramic platter you can later use to display or for entertaining, or sign the mat around a framed engagement photo to hang on a wall in your home later on.

Any of these ideas will spice up the traditional guest book idea, create a wonderful keepsake for years to come, and maybe even serve as décor in your new home together.

Which unique guest book idea is your favorite?
