From having your budget prioritized to finding your bridesmaids and the perfect florists that will have your everything as planned, this all by itself sounds exhausting, and yet it’s not all. Before you get all stressed out, we have compiled eight ways to help you cope with this pressure.
Read on and see ways you can calm your nerves, combat the constant pressure, opinions, and criticism from your surroundings that will all stress you out.
1. Prioritize the essentials
We all love to have the perfect things for our wedding and so we plan for the best. Sometimes the best keeps becoming relative and dynamic over time. While planning, it is very important to have your essentials at hand because this helps you be strategic and have things properly aligned. To help keep things in perspective, have those things that are super important to make your wedding dream come true. This includes the wedding venue, the florists, the bridesmaids, just to name a few. Just have it prioritized and your work will be made easier and you will have better results because your focus will be centered on what really matters to you. And that’s where the fun comes in. Right? Doing what matters most
2. Have A Plan B
While planning, all we are thinking of is a “Perfect Wedding Dress”, “Perfect decor”, “Perfect accessories” and so much more. The drive for perfection can be profoundly stressful and emotionally fraught. We know and have seen it, some things that happen are out of control. Things like the weather, wrong flower placement, wrong fabric, and many more. This shouldn’t stop you from enjoying your day. Take a deep breath and calm down. Sometimes, things that have failed to match as intended are actually what make your wedding unique. Plan for the very best but if what you plan for isn’t portrayed as you would like, know that your wedding is great enough if you get married at the end of the day.
3. Go on a Digital-Detox
Most times, Pinterest can take our time and overwhelm us with so many ideas. This can alter our initial priorities that may change to the final day if not controlled. When you feel like Pinterest and other social media channels have replaced your partner, take a social media detox. This will help you have less anxiety, more time to sleep, and build your confidence in the things that you have already planned.
Alternatively, you can set aside your phone for some hours in a day. This will help you ponder on your plans, set your priorities in alignment, and also create more time to spend with your partner.
4. Share your workload
Don’t be afraid to get some help from your trusted friends, parents, bridesmaids, groomsmen, and delegates. The sheer number of things to do during wedding planning can be overwhelming but can be eased when you break it down and allocate different responsibilities to the people you trust the most. This can include confirming supplier arrangements, packing up items to take to the venue and any wedding DIY tasks that you may have. Always remember that all don’t have to fall on you and your partner for the wedding to be a success. You can have a successful wedding with help too.
5. Take breaks despite your busy schedule
As short or long as they might be, taking breaks will help you refresh your mind.
If you are feeling decision fatigue, try going for a break and enjoy activities you love and also space out the decision-making. In doing so, you won’t have to worry about making so many big decisions at a go. If possible, try not to make a big decision when you’re tired, upset, or sleepy. Instead, relax, meditate or sleep on it and then look right into it with fresh eyes.
6. Communicate
Let it all out. Talk to your partner, family, and trusted friends about how you feel. Many times, brides and grooms try to hide pain and feeling of disappointment just to have a perfect picture to the world that everything is going on so perfectly. Even though you might not see a need of letting your friends and family know, there's nothing worse than feeling overwhelmed and not having someone to talk to. Open up and acknowledge any fears you might have, shed some tears, and feel all the better for it. As it is said “two heads are better than one”, share with someone you trust and get clarity.
7. Remember you are beautiful
Oftentimes, brides and grooms get worried about how they’ll look on their wedding day. “Will I be good enough, smart enough, look sassy and classy too?” Let us answer that for you. Yes, you’ll be all that. You are so beautiful. You’re gorgeous. You have great hair. You have the perfect body. So shut down all sources of low self-esteem and look forward to that big day of your life.
If you ever doubt yourself, look in the mirror, and repeat “I am so beautiful and sassy” till you start believing it. And you will!
8. Celebrate the small wins
At the end of each day or week, remember to make a done list; carefully note down all the things you’ve achieved and celebrate them. As your to-do lists can send you into a panic mode and hinder your progress, the “Done” list will make you feel proud of your progress and motivate you to do more the following day or week.
To spice it up the more, write down all that you've been able to accomplish, pin it and start reading it out loud and marvel at how focused and amazing you are.
One Last Note
Planning for a wedding is meant to be fun and exciting. Yes, some things are bound to happen but that doesn't negate the fact that it's your big day to celebrate. Make that count and have fun. Don’t worry about disappointing a relative, a friend you didn’t invite, or losing a deposit, your happiness is the priority.
