Adults play dress-up with Barbie wedding gowns

If you had a Barbie as a child, perhaps you enjoyed dressing her up in white gowns and marching her down the aisle.

Well, it seems some grown-up women can't seem to shake the desire to play dress-up - but this time they are putting themselves in the role of living dolls.

Mattel Brands, maker of Barbie, is planning to launch a collection of wedding dresses in Japan based on the iconic plastic doll with the long legs and tiny waist, Reuters reports.

The Barbie Bridal line will go on sale in the country in June, giving aspiring brides the opportunity to wear gowns the news provider describes as "full of bows, ruffles and gowns embroidered with the doll's logo." Clearly, it's not everyone's cup of tea.

This is not the first time Barbie has been associated with bridal fashion. Over the years, a number of respected wedding gown designers have come up with creations for the doll, including Vera Wang, Monique Lhuillier and Carolina Herrera.

Although there is no mention of plans to introduce the line of wedding apparel in America, Japanese women may soon be fashioning themselves after the doll, who is celebrating her 50th birthday this year.

Whether or not Ken will be present at the ceremony is still a matter up for discussion.
