Cupcake Vineyards & a DIY Wedding Reception Cocktail

By Vane Broussard, Published May 21, 2012

For some weddings where the couple is providing their own alcohol, sometimes it can be hard to figure out how much to spend for the quality of wine you'll be getting. I was recently invited to a wine tasting by wedding planner extraordinaire Alison Hotchkiss (Alison Events) for Cupcake Vineyards, and while I'm not a big drinker, I was pleasantly surprised by the price point, and more importantly, the taste!

They have a full series of wines to choose from, reds, whites, sparkling, etc, and have now added flavored vodkas as well to go with their cupcake theme...have you ever tasted Devil's Food Vodka? Me either! With prices less than $15 a bottle, your guests would never know you didn't spend a fortune! And over at the Cupcake Vineyards bridal section, you'll find tips from Alison herself, as well as recipes to make your own this one below!

Blackberry Chiffon Refresher

2 oz Cupcake Chiffon Vodka
1 cup fresh blackberries
3 large mint leaves
1 oz fresh lime juice
1 1/4 to 1 1/2 oz simple syrup or 1 oz agave syrup, to taste
2 oz Cupcake Red Velvet
1 oz favored sparkling water (like Le Croix pamplemousse)

Combine vodka, blackberries and mint in a shaker and muddle until berries are well crushed. Add the lime juice, simple syrup or agave (depending on berry ripeness, you can adjust the quantities to taste), Red Velvet and fill the shaker tin to the top with ice. Cap the shaker and shake vigorously for 15 seconds. Have a quick taste to make sure it's perfect, then strain into an ice-filled Collins glass. Top with a splash of the sparkling water and enjoy.
