Sorry Bridey, But We’re Not Friends…

By, Published Sep 11, 2012

So not to brag, but this happens to me a lot. My brides really like me (crazy I know) and want to be my friend after their weddings. And while I'm open to maintaining our relationship, there's just one problem. You don't actually know how to be my friend. Huh? Whaaa?

Allow me to be blunt... It's a one sided friendship. Seriously usually there's nothing in it for me because we are so used to talking about you, and your wedding, that you don't know how to incorporate my life into the equation... And it's not actually your fault as this has been our MO throughout the duration of our relationship. But, since you're not paying me anymore, it's hard for us to move forward without talking about our common bond... your wedding.

I like to look at it like dating your shrink after therapy. You become so used to the conversation being about you that's it's hard to adjust your thinking to ask me about my life; ask about my hopes and dreams; even ask about my wedding. And, I know it's hard to believe, but once your wedding is done, I'm kinda done talking about it.

Also, you brideys somehow forget about my hours. I work a lot of them and oftentimes not when you do. So, no... I'm not ignoring you, I'm just busy and when I'm not busy then I kinda just want to see my family or watch some shit TV and chill. I'm not trying to be mean or insulting, I'm just being honest. There's always the exception to the rule, and that's because those brideys are willing to push through the transition and recognize that my life is important too.

So for those of you who love your planner and want to begin an entirely new relationship after your wedding, just remember that it takes work, and if you're in it for the long haul... then it just may be the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

Got a girl crush on your planner? If yes, will you try to maintain the friendship after you say I Do?
