The Antithesis of A Big Fat Gypsy Wedding

By admin, Published Apr 13, 2012

I know I'm not the only one blown away by TLC's My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding. I mean, I've had to hold myself back from doing deep-dive research to see if the crazy practices, traditions, and costumes are really real and representative of true Gypsy (aka Romany) culture. Because things like 15 and 16 year old brides, wedding dresses so heavy they make you bleed, and "grabbing" and bridal kidnappings... just seem soooo wrong. But I'll admit that the pure entertainment of it all keeps me coming back for more (and cringing the whole way).

So when I spotted this editorial shoot by Christian Ward Photography inspired by original Romany traditions and recommendations from real-life Gypsy travelers on UK bridal blog, Rock My Wedding, I knew I had to share! And a Big Fat Gypsy Wedding it is not! Mixing romantic and vintage-inspired bridal gowns with statement wedding accessories & head chic, antique China in various patterns with whimsical assorted wedding centerpiece arrangements, lovely lace table linens with rustic twine details... it's the antithesis of what we've come to expect from Gypsy weddings.

Isn't this shoot deliciously romantic? Are you surprised how different it is from the weddings we see on MBFGW?
