The Ultimate Guide To Having The Perfect Wedding Snapchat Filter

By Andrew Lee

These days, every wedding couple has their own wedding hashtag for their guests to use. But if you want your big day to be truly unique and have all of your guests talking about how incredibly special it was, you absolutely must have your own wedding Snapchat Geofilter.

What Are Snapchat Geofilters? Snapchat Geofilters are photo overlays that are exclusive to a certain area. Geofilters are created for a specific area at a specific time frame, and only those within that area re able to use the geofilters for their photos or videos, or as Snapchat calls them, their "Snaps".

Wedding filters are the latest trend and they’re here to stay. Not only does having your own Snapchat geofilter make for an awesome conversation piece, but it’s an activity that gets everyone at your wedding involved.

Everyone at your wedding can use your custom filter for an unlimited amount of times as long as your geofilter is active. Since your guests will likely post Snaps using your Geofilter to their Snapchat Story, your filter will be seen by many more people than just your wedding guests. So if you’re wanting to have a private wedding… you may want to rethink having your own wedding filter.

But how do you get the filters on Snapchat? If you have both the time and the graphic design talent, you can make your own geofilter design and then go through Snapchat’s Geofilter submission process by yourself. If you’re busy (say planning a wedding) or don’t feel confident in your graphic design abilities, you can go to a Snapchat Geofilter agency to handle everything for you. For example, at our agency,, we offer unique, and fully customized Snapchat Geofilters. We even take care of Snapchat’s Geofilter Submission process free of charge. Each geofilter we create is 100% custom made so there is absolutely zero chance of you or someone you know coming across the same design on social media for another wedding.

If you really want something unique, you can even send our agency a photograph that we can turn into a caricature as part of your geofilter’s design.

If you decide to go the DIY route, here are the four steps on how to set up your Wedding Snapchat Geofilter:

1. Upload Your Snapchat Geofilter's Design

Go to to get started.

Make sure your Custom Filter meets Snapchat’s Geofilter Guidelines: Otherwise, Snapchat will not accept your filter (this is an area where it’s helpful to use an agency that has lots of experience at what Snapchat will accept).

2. Set The Date And Time Frame You Would Like Your Snapchat Filter To Run

Snapchat can take up to a day to review your filter so be sure to set everything up sooner rather than later.

Important note: Snapchat only accepts a certain number of geofilters over an area at a given time. If you wait until the last minute to submit your filter, Snapchat may deny it because their “geofilter cap” has been reached. Also, be sure to take time zones into account when you’re setting the time your geofilter is to run. Snapchat automatically has the time zone set for central time, so if you are on the coasts, adjust for the time difference.

3. Choose the location you would like your Wedding Geofilter to be able to be used

Find the location and map out the area that your geofilter will be able to be used by everyone.

Important note: Because Snapchat’s mapping isn’t always 100% accurate, be sure to leave plenty of buffer space around the area that you need.

4. Finalize Your Information and Confirm Your Payment To Snapchat

Snapchat’s geofilter fee is based off of the size and duration of your geofilter. The longer you run your filter, and the larger the area you cover… the more expensive it will be.

On average, Snapchat’s geofilter fee is around $20.00 per day for an average wedding sized area.

Important note: Make sure your location settings are turned on for your Snapchat app. If you don’t have your location settings turned on in Snapchat, you won’t be able to get any geofilters on your phone.

In Conclusion..

Snapchat Geofilters are an amazing way of getting to see what your wedding looks like through your guests eyes. Having your own filter gives you an activity that gets everyone at your wedding involved in the festivities. It will absolutely encourage everyone at your wedding to take more pictures of your big day.. and the day after your wedding you can relive the night by watching everyone’s Snap Stories!
