Wedding officiant make you comfortable? Why or why not?
Dr. Rev. Rau was very personable and made us feel at ease from day one of meeting him at his home office. He was patient with myself (bridezilla) and my husband as we negotiated the elements we desired for our union ceremony. Rev. Rau was very flexible with us in meeting our needs for scripting a ceremony program that flowed with our ideals, outdoor site, and beliefs. We especially appreciated the pre-marital sessions Rev. Rau spent with us, and we are even incorporating the tools he taught us at those sessions in our marriage today. Rev. Rau touched on all the important issues at those sessions, and we didn't feel the least bit uncomfortable in talking to each other if front of him because of his ease of character and understanding.
What did the officiant or clergy add that was unexpected?
Dr. Rev. Rau went out of his way to find scripture from the bible that was linked to the design elements of our ceremony we had incorporated. More specifically, we had decided to plant a tree instead of lighting a unity candle, and at that time Dr. Rev. Rau had surprised us with a bible passage about tree roots that extend into the earth and how that can make strong families - (I forget the exact passage, though he provided it for us in a nice copy of our ceremony written up and bound for a keepsake) it made the words he spoke as the officiant even more meaningful to the sanctity and significance of our ceremony - and it gave it a special touch of uniqueness that we and our guests will never forget. It was amazing that he found something so relevant for our unique ceremony in the bible.
How did you personalize your wedding ceremony?
Rev. Rau was able to provide me with a template ceremony that I was able to personalize and craft to demonstrate to him what our wishes were as a couple. That way we were able to cooperatively negotiate the wording that was most meaningful to my husband and I for the ceremony and I was able to craft my programs from the items Dr. Rau provided me. We had finally selected a poem to read during the ceremony the day before at the rehearsal and Rev. Rau was able to review it and allow us to incorporate it into the ceremony as well, despite the last minute addition.
Favorite wedding ceremony comment from guests?
Even though some of my family would have preferred a church wedding, my husband and I had opted for an outdoor wedding at my family farm. After the ceremony our guests were very impressed with how Rev. Rau was able to make it feel as religious as it would have indoors in a church despite the outdoor location. The guests were most impressed with the incorporation of vows to my now step-son and a presentation of a medallion to him - even the men cried at this, and Rev. Rau was very helpful in incorporating this unique circumstance of blending families and he really emphasized how it was not just the union of husband and wife, but of families, friends and lives and histories and futures, and that really made the guests feel more a part of the days celebrations. My family was very impressed with Rev. Rau's presence as a speaker and spiritual guide for the event.
