What was your favorite wedding photo?
It's so tough to choose just one! Rachel has amazing creativity and a knack for knowing exactly the right shot. I'm not a flashy person and I was hesitant to get goofy in my wedding photos and Rachel just knew how to approach the entire day in order to get the shots that she knew I would want and would like.
Rachel can take an ordinary scene - me standing on my front porch, my nephew digging in the sand - and make it look like art. And there is nothing forced about her photography. It all looks so natural, comfortable and happy.
If had to pick just a few pictures, I would say the ones I loved the most were the pictures we took post-wedding ceremony on the beach. There are several candid photos where I am looking at my husband, not posing, and the looks on our faces are just pure joy and excitement. The lighting was perfect - sunset right behind us, the ocean in front of us - and Rachel knew how to make all the colors pop, from the water, to my red hair, to John's green socks.
I also loved the pictures of me and my husband thanking our parents during the ceremony. Again, Rachel capture the exact moment where our faces show happiness, relief and all the mix of emotions we were feeling that day.
How did the wedding photographer avoid disrupting the day? Great with candids? Action shots? Portraits?
It never felt like Rachel was in the way - she basically became part of our family by the end of the weekend. She didn't tell us where to go, how to pose or what we should be doing - but always managed to gently nudge us into great shots. She has quite a skill in blending seamlessly into her shoots and she has the patience of a saint. She took the necessary time to get the shot right but never made us feel uncomfortable or antsy as we were posing and doing candid photos.
I think Rachel is best capturing candids - she has an ability to see something that nobody else would and get that exact right shot. A smile on a little kid, an emotional expression on a parent or a hilarious pose on the dancefloor - her brain and shutter finger work very quickly!
What was included in your wedding photo package? Albums? DVDs? Engagement pics? Two photographers?
Our wedding package included DVDs, two photographers, engagement pictures (which we exchanged for rehearsal dinner shooting). Rachel is very flexible on packaging and wants to make sure she is giving you what you need and want. We now have the option to work with her to create photo books for our families.
How did the photographer make you and family comfortable?
Rachel made us all feel comfortable by being herself and having a very skillful, deft touch. My family simply adores her and by the end of the weekend, she was part of the family! She would gently push to get us into the right places for shots, suggest what she thought were good options and looks but never tell us what to do. She was willing to work with our suggestions (even the lame ones) and knew which family member and friends were the ones who would be more daring in photos and which would prefer to just smile.
I cannot recommend Rachel enough - I have told so many friends and relatives about her amazing work and they all want to go back and redo their own weddings and bring Rachel on board.
