Destination wedding photographer Katch Silva specializes in fine art and documentary style for outdoor weddings.
Hey there! I'm Katch. I'm a photographer, an artist, a story teller and a lover of the outdoors. I spend most of my free time in the mountains documenting the adventures I go on with my husband. If you're up for it, I'd love to help you tell your story.
What was your favorite wedding photo?
Every. single. one.
How did the photographer make you and family comfortable?
I’ve got to be honest when I say that our search for a wedding photographer felt like an eternity. Every website that my husband and I went to just felt so impersonal…like you could hear the “wait here”, “pose there”, “hold that smile” behind every picture. Then we found Katch. And without thinking twice, we booked her. And my husband and I still agree: it was the single best decision we made for our wedding.
I can think of countless amazing words to describe Kateryn Silva and her incredible, incredible talent, but I think it all boils down to one word: real. Wholeheartedly real.
Aside from the fact that she rock climbs and travels all over the world (seriously, can we be friends?), the moments she captures in her photographs are filled with such real, raw emotion—the kinds of feelings that you often keep deep in your heart as a small token of your most cherished days.
I look back at Katch’s photographs of our wedding, and honestly, I’m right there again. I can feel the tears running down my cheek that I felt when my husband read me his handwritten vows. I can feel the cold mud on my feet that I felt when we snuck away to the vineyard fields after our first few minutes as “Mr. and Mrs.” And what’s even better? With Katch, my husband and I can experience the emotions that weren’t ours, as well—those of our families, our friends…those whom we hold closest to our hearts.
Another reason why I loved/love Katch:
I’ve been a bridesmaid for a good handful of weddings, and I’ve seen SO many photographers get caught up in fabricating/curating a “perfect” moment. I’ve seen my friends (as brides) have to re-enact hugs, reposition kisses with their husbands, and hold a “fake laugh” with guests. The worst part? Not only did their photographers miss out on real moments during these weddings, they missed out on the real emotions behind it.
Some of the best advice I got when choosing a wedding photographer: make sure that your photographer lets you have your wedding day. Both Katch (and Nellie, her second photographer) were like secret ninjas who we barely noticed were there. They were respectful, gracious, and completely non-intrusive. They effortlessly captured the most intimate moments of our wedding—including our “first look”—with my husband and I feeling like we were the only two people in the room (or outdoors, for that matter).
I 100% stand behind the belief that Katch Silva is the best decision that you’ll make when it comes to photography. She is professional, down-to-earth, and incredibly flexible. (Trust me on that last one, too—we ended up taking our engagement photos (turned newlywed photos) after our wedding since we were originally out of town, and I changed our engagement session date about 20 different times.)
With the talent she has—and I’m calling it now—this girl is going places. (Not to mention she’s the humblest person you’ll ever meet.) She'll capture your special day in the most honest and beautiful way, and it will make you want to hang every one of her photos up for the world to see.
